1. Excellent Corrosion Resistance – Outstanding resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking in chloride and sour environments.

Metallurgical Structure

Alloy 625 has a austenitic (face‑centered cubic) structure with niobium and molybdenum additions. The alloy is strengthened by precipitation of the intermetallic phase γ″ (Ni₃Nb) and carbides. This structure provides excellent ductility, weldability, and thermal stability over a wide temperature range.

Corrosion Resistance

Alloy 625 exhibits exceptional resistance to:

• Acids – Sulfuric, hydrochloric, phosphoric, nitric, and organic acids.

• Chloride environments – Pitting resistance equivalent (PRE) > 45, outperforming 316 stainless and Alloy C276 in many conditions.

• Sour gas – Resists H₂S stress corrosion cracking per NACE MR0175/ISO 15156.

• High temperature oxidation – Protective chromium oxide scale forms up to 980°C.

• Crevice corrosion – Critical crevice temperature (CCT) > 80°C in 10% FeCl₃.
